Dear Tim,
This Wednesday, we had a Christmas and New Year party. We exchanged our gifts. This year, my " little angel" was Hugo again. He sent me a purple wallet and I really like it. I heard that it was chosen by Angela, and I think that she did a good job. Then, we ate delicious food happily. We had five pizzas, and our Chinese teacher bought us some fried chicken. We all had wonderful time.
Today is 31th December, the last day of this year. It is also the day of my mother's birthday. So we went back to my grandfather's house in Yilan in early morning. I will celebrate this day with my dear family.
I hope that I can have a perfect year!

Last Saturday, we had school fair. It was a tiring day. We sold noodles, soup, drink, and face painting again. It was cold on that day. Terefore, we had many buttles of Sprite left.
We went to see " World Press Photo" yesterday. I think it was really a good experience. I seldom watch news on TV. If I watch it, I can only know something about traffic accident, politics, and so on. In this exhibition, I saw many realistic photos all over the world. Many groups of photos are talking about animals, refugees, and some terrible scenes. But there are three photos let me feel impressive. In South Africa, a photographer took the pictures. In those photos, there are buffalos, elephants, and zebras, and behind these animals are the beautiful night sky with many stars.I really want to see this kind of view in person!

Letter 9: English Dubbing Contest
Dear Tim,
1. What was the Halloween costume that you would probably only find in Arizona?
Two little kids dressed as cacti, and everyone would recognize them and think that it was cute.
2. What was different about Hugo's "tellytubbie" costume? How did another member of the class take advantage of this?
Hugo's costume had to be adapted to make a " tellytubbie." When Sabrina needed someone to transform to demonstrate her witch's power, he could be a frog.
3. How does Mr. Maher suspect that Ms. Lin made it through the day on Halloween?
She might run away and hide. But she didn't do that.
Last Friday, we went to Taipei City University of Science and Technology to attend the English Dubbing Contest. There were eight people in my class have to perform. And they did did well! But to our surprised, there was two teams from the same school in Taichung. They got the top two, and one of our team only got the third prize. It was a good experience for me to watch these students performed.

Letter 8: Halloween
Dear Tim,
Now, I'm going to answer to your three questions.
1. Why should the Los Angeles Dodgers be considered the favorite on this years' World Series?
Because it won 104 games that was more than other teams. It also picked up one of the best pitchers from the Texas Rangers. Therefore, they have two best pitchers now.
2. With three games having been played so far, which team has won more games, but why are the Dodgers still the favorie to win the Series?
Houston Astros has won more games. The reason that the Dodgers are still the favorite team to win the Series is because it won't be easy for Houston Astros to win. If necessary, the final two games will be back in Los Angeles.
3. What are traditionally used to decorate the graves on Dia de Los Muertos?
Adult graves are marked with orange marigolds, while orchids are left at children's graves.
About musicals, we don't have a complete plan. But we are going to start to practice how to sing on the stage in these weeks. I will tell you more about it next week.

Letter7: The Wonderful Night at Karaoke
Dear Tim,
First, I have to answer your three questions. 1.Dullahan was the headless horseman transformed by the angry god, Crom Dobh. The only protection from him is to be wearing or carrying an object made of gold. 2. Every year at this time, Mill Avenue is going to become party central. They block off Mill Avenue to cars, flood the place with police, and let the party begin. 3. It was said that most of the tricks of the Halloween have been " toned down". "Tricks" of any kind are strongly discouraged.
I like Halloween! I relish dresing up as different characters and giving sweet candies to my friends or some children.This year, my class will have this activity again. But we won't give children candies. I expect for this activity, and I will post some photos next week.
Last Friday, I went to karaoke with my friends. ( Melody, Angela, Selena, Sherry, Amy, Jack) We had a wonderful night! We sang happily, and we beame a little bit crazy at final. I enjoyed singing, especially with my dear friends. I hope we can have a chance to do it again!

Letter 6: Musical
Dear Tim,
First, I want to answer your questions from last time. Yes, my father's family is originally from Yilan, and my grandparents still live there. Therefore, I always go back to Yilan on weekends.
Now, I am going to answer the three questions. The first Chinese immigrants came to Arizona as railroad workers around the year of 1870. When they got here, they did whatever manual labor jobs they could find. They opened laundries, restaurant, and so on. The original Phoenix Chinatown is now the area for sports like basketball and baseball. The citizens of Tempe would think that they lived in a civilized society because they have all the infrastructures. They even have a major university in the center of town.
We watched " Miss Saigon" at drama class. It is a good musical. My classmates and I really love musicals, so we have an idea of performing a musical for our yearly presentation. I hope we can do it well in the future. Therefore, we have to find some musicals now in order to let us easy to choose the best one. I really feel excited about this!

Letter 5: Mid-Autumn Festival
Dear Tim,
First, I am going to answer your three questions. I have heard the old story about Chang'e since I was little. Chang'e was Yi's beloved wife. One day, to keep a wicked servant from stealing the magic elixir, she drank the magic potion, and escaped from the evil servant by going to the moon. Then, she became the Moon Goddess. Nowadays, people celebrate the " Moon Festival" by barbequing, eating some moon cakes with family. Though I don't like to eat moon cakes. About " Harvest Moon", in western culture, the first full moon after the fall equinox is called the " Harvest Moon", because the extra light of the full moon gives farmers more time to spend in the fields.
This year, my family had lunch with my grandparents, uncle, and aunt in Yilan in order to celebrate the festival. I really had a good time with my dear family. There was something interesting during our lunch. I ordered a cup of juice as my drink, and I thought that it might be orange juice or apple juice. However, when I got my juice, everybody laughed! That was a cup of " lemon juice"! This was my first time to drink a whole cup of lemon juice, and I drank it with my face twisted...
I was surprised when Hugo told me that Allison said something about me in the letter. Yes, I did have a crush on one of the actors. My classmates and teacher all knew it at that day... In fact, I had some conversations with him on Facebook last year, since Doris insisted that I learn more informations about him if I admire him. That's why I know that he is as old as us, so I hope that I can see him in the show next year!

Letter4: An Evening for Twelfth Night
Dear Tim,
First, I want to response the questions that you asked me last week. Actually, I don't know why I am afraid of butterflies. I think they are a little bit discusting ... And about our voice cover, I got the role of Alvin was because they thought I can be an important character in the film. And I did could do that high, squeeky voice.
Now, I'm going to answer your two questions. 1) Chloe might be putting on a little extra weight because she eats out other cats' dish. 2) Countries ruling, or colonizing the isels in the Caribbean are the United States, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
We went to Taipei American School at 28th Sepetember. This time, the show was " Twelfth Night". I had been waiting for that day since eleven months ago. That was so entertaining! It have always been a wonderful night whenever we have an event like this. I was so shocked and almost upset that the same actor I have adored since last show when I knew that he was posing, Sir Toby, a character I hated. But he changed my opinions! I thought that Toby is a bad charactor when I first saw the story. However, he acted so cute that I like Toby now. I start to look forward to the next year.

Letter3: Voice Cover
Dear Tim,
I love those flowers in summer, they are very pretty. But I hate butterflies... I am afraid of them, so many friends always laugh at me. Now I want to answer to your three questions. You usually plant flowers with red, orange, or yellow. Since they are the colors that are most attractive to the hummingbirds and butterflies. You also plant the blue flowers because you just like them. And the blossoms on the blue flowers are actually open from an hour after sunrise to about 10:00 in the morning. Last week, you recieved a postcard telling you that it was time for the city to begin work on every water main in your neighborhood. And about Labrador Retrievers, they are bred to go into the ice-cold water of a river or lake and retrieve the ducks that the hunter has shot. A "good" Labrador will go get the ball or other object and bring it back after you throw it out, or into the water. This game is called "fetch".
Now, I'm going to answer the question you asked me last week. Yes, Hugo is in my French class. He was next to me in the picture. And Melody was beside me , too. But atually, she hadn't learned French for few months. This week, I made a big decision! I am not going to continue to learn it. Since we are busier in this semester, and I think that I can learn more by myself.
Tuesday, we had voice cover in our Reading and Writing class. My group used the movie " Alvin and the Chipmunks." And I played as Alvin. In fact, I really like this activity! I like to do everything about performance. We did our best to do the work. Though my group didn't be chosen to attend the contest, I still felt very happy that we had this experience to do voice cover. Actually, I have a little envy to those people who can attend the contest, because it will must become a special memory for them.

Letter2: New French Teacher
Dear Tim,
I really want to see a real deer in person. It is very cute! I like animals but I am afraid of touching them. Sometimes, I think that dogs are lovely but I will try my best to keep them away. In fact, I don't know why I am afraid of them...
Last Friday, I had a terrible evening... My French teacher went back to France last Monday, so we had a new teacher. I felt very anxiety when I waited for the new teacher. Other students were also curious about the answer. Then, we saw her! She is a beautiful woman. In fact, she had tought us for two weeks when our teacher went to Japan and Thailand five months ago. She is really a good teacher but I don't like to be her student. I felt stressful in the class. Though I don't like her, I will still keep learning French because I like to learn languages!

Letter1: My Summer Vacation
Dear Tim,
Hi, I'm back!! I don't like typhoon. In Taiwan, we often stop working and going to school because of typhoon. But typhoon would cause terrible damage in somewhere. And the news would report some accidents. I hope everywhere could be fine, so I hate typhoon.
Now, I'm going to tell about my summer vacation. I went to KTV with Tiffany, Red, Melody and Megan. Thaat was my first time wint to KTV with my senior high school friends. We all had fun. Megan is really a good singer. Every Friday, I have French class with Hugo. But we felt very sad when we heard that our teacher was going to go back to France at the begining of September. So we had dinner with our teacher and classmates(include Melody). We gave our teacher a card that we made. We all love him very much! Then, my summer vacation was over... I think that I didn't do anything important in my vacaation.
I was happy that we have six new students in our class. Though we only have 18 people in class, it is very diferrent from other classes. I hope everything will be right in this semester.

Letter 30: The End of Our 10th Grade
Dear Tim,
I'm sorry that I won't write too much in this letter, because we are going to have the final exam, and I need to prepare for it. Taiwan is getting hotter and hotter right now. Last week, it was almost rain everyday. Many people will fell very uncomfortable in the terrible weather. Fortunatelly, I can bear the hot weather well.
We are going to be separated into different classes. Many of our classmates will leave EHP, and some people will come in. I try not to feel sad about their leaving, however, I cannot help but keeping memorizing those wonderful memories between us. Wherever they go , I believe that we will be friends forever! I love them very much!

Letter 29: My Summer Plan
Dear Tim,
I am interested in the last part of your newsletter. I like languages, and I think that learning Turkish is special. Since I believe that there aren't many people can speak Turkish in Taiwan. If I have a chance in the future, I hope I can learn this language. And I also have great interest on Turkish food. I have only eaten Turkish ice cream befaore, and I really want to try some delicious food.
About my summer plan, I don't have a exactly schedule. But I have already know what I will do. First, I will improve my English and French. I want to read some books in these two languages. And then, I have to exercise more! In order to keep my weight and be healthier. The last is that I will go out with my friends. Cathy, Melody, and I are planning about our travel to Tainan and Kaohsiung.

About my summer plan, I don't have a exactly schedule. But I have already know what I will do. First, I will improve my English and French. I want to read some books in these two languages. And then, I have to exercise more! In order to keep my weight and be healthier. The last is that I will go out with my friends. Cathy, Melody, and I are planning about our travel to Tainan and Kaohsiung.

Letter 28: EHP Yearly Presentation
Dear Tim,
I didn't eat zonngzi this year since I didn't went to my grandparents' house in Yilan with my family. My grandpa makes zongzi by himself every year. But this year, I have to go to school to prepare our EHP yearly presentation, so I couldn't visit my grandparents in the vacation. I really missed those tasty zongzi made by my dear grandpa...
We had a wonderful time in our EHP yearly presentation though it rained hardly that day. There were three shows performed by second grader and one show by third grader. And I was one of the hosts for those shows. William and I hosted for a show named" Lost in Trsnsylvania". I played a British lady and William played a cowboy. For the other show" Unforgivable Sinners", Red, Hugo and I hosted it. I was a bride in our performance. But I was killed by the groom(Red played) soon. And he got marrried with the priest(Hugo played). When I was hurt by the groom, I had to scream loudly. And I swear that I did my best on the stage to let the audience laugh. Fortunately, I was success!

Letter 27: EHP yearly presentation
Dear Tim,
In Taiwan, there is a day just like Memorial Day. We have a holiday in 2/28 in order to memorize those people who died in 2/28 incident.
We had had our school fair in last semester. I really like this activity in school. Because we can try to do some "business" by ourselves. I always do my best to help my class earning money.
Next week, we are going to have four days vacation for Dragon Boat Festival. But we have to go to school for three days of the vacation. Since we will have our EHP yearly presentation next Friday afternoon and night. I am a host in our performance. The two characters that I play are a British lady and a bride. I hope I can do well next week.

Letter 26: My Grades Again
Dear Tim,
I am interested about the birthday party you talked about. I really hope that I can enjoy a party like this someday. To celebrate my birthday, my friends will buy me a cake and design some games to let me get the gifts they prepared. And they will have a dinner with me. We will have a happy time. But I haven't experienced a "real" party, I really want to try it.
I got the grades that my mom felt satisfactory in the midtern exam. Especially my math grade, this is the first time that I got higher than 50 since last semester. I hope that I can work harder next time and get better grades than this time. I believe I can do better!

Letter 25: Cinco de Mayo
Dear Tim,
I really like to learn something about other countries' cultures. This time, I also feel intereted in the holiday, Cinco de Mayo, you had mentioned. I would like to attend this holiday since I relish watching dances. When I see people dance, I will feel excited and want to dance with them. If there is a chance, I want to learn more about the different cultures in different countries.
Now, I am accustomed to write you the letters, and I also enjoy it. But I know that I still have many grammar mistakes in my writing. Therefore, I will practice this more! And I have to say sorry! Next week, we are going to have our middle exam. So I have to study harder or my mom will be mad at me. She always think that I have to study more. And if I go to bed before 24:00, she will blame at me as I am not hardworking. I really feel tired about this.

Letter 24: Chorus Contest
Dear Tim,
We got the champion!!!
This afternoon, we had a singing contest with other 17 classes. For this, my classmates and I kept practicing for a month. We sang hard every noon in order to be the best class on the stage. Today, our teacher, Summer, sang with Soprano. Since our school said that the teachers in each classes can help the students to sing. When we were singing, I felt very impressed. We sang softly but also loudly sometime. Stand on the stage, we enjoyed the melody and put our feelings in it! Our goal was that we wanted to make the audience felt moved. And we did did it! As we hoped, we won the competition.

Letter 23: Basketball Game
Dear Tim,
Thank you for your suggestions last time. I will try my best to prepare the exam next time.
This week, we are very busy! We just got the fourth place in the basketball game yesterday. My classmates really did the great job! In fact, it is not fair to us, because there are just 21 person in our class. Therefore, we did not have many choices. In our boys' team, we needed two girls to take the place of the boys who is injured and cannot play. Fortunately, our girls' team is very powerful! Most of them are in our school's basketball team. We had four games with other classes. Our girls' team let other girls' teams get no point in three games. We are all proud of them! But the boys in other classes are taller and stronger than our. In the games, they always hit our players hardly, regardless of boy or girl. So we lose the game finally.
Next Wednesday, we have a singing contest. I hope we can do our best and enjoy the competition. I will tell you the story about this next time!

Letter 22: My Terrible Grades
Dear Tim,
I like your letter which was talking about the leprechauns. And I also love the story “Midsummer’s Night Dream”. In fact, it is my favorite story by Shakespeare! I relish those fairies live in the forest, I think that they are so cute.
This time, I want to tell you something about my grades. I felt very upset when I knew my scores after the exam. I thought that I had studied hard for the test this time, but I received a terrible result! My mom told me that I used a wrong way to study. Therefore, I didn't understand the details clearly. I know that you are a history teacher, but I still want to tell you that I have never got such a low score for history. This time, I felt the questions were very difficult when I wrote my test paper. I even couldn't understand some questions... I really hope that I can have better scores next time. I have to change my way of studying to improve my grades. Do you have any good ideas of studying ?

Letter 21: The Cup Song
Dear Tim:
I am sorry that I can't spend too much time to respond you. Since we are going to have a big exam next Monday and Tuesday. But I still want to share something about The Cup Song to you.
When I was a second-grader in junior high, I had a perfect memory with my classmates. There were the lessons that my class had to have some activities with some elders. And one of the lesson was that we needed to teach those elders playing cups like The Cup Song. When they learned it well eventually, our teacher took a video for us. My classmates and I sang the song loudly and happily and we passed the cups one by one. We really had a good time at that afternoon with the elders. Until now, I can still recalled the memory vividly and clearly.Therefore, I always have many feelings when I hear The Cup Song every time.

Dear Tim,
I really like the article about birds. This made me think of a composition I have written. Last year, I wrote a composition about the bird as my English homework. Though I am afraid of those real birds that are flying beside me, I still envy them! I want to fly in the sky happily. I want to be free and sing loudly every day. Maybe those birds aren't very delighted like I think, I still hope that I can live like a bird some day.

Letter 18: Baseball and my name
Dear Tim,
You really like baseball, right? In fact, I don't understand baseball very clear. But when I was just a child, I always watched baseball games on TV with my parents. At that time, I felt that it was very tired to watch a whole game. Now, I have more interest on it. Sometimes, I watch baseball game to relax.
Oh! I know that Hugo had told you that I changed my English name before. In fact, I changed that name for only one day. My mother called me Candy when I was little. Though I didn't use my English name in elementary school and junior high, I didn't change my name when I went to senior high. Last semester, I always thought that my name is a kid's name. Therefore, one day when Hugo, Melvyn and I were on the MRT, they chose the name, Candice, for me. At first, I thought that this name sounds very good. It is not only sounds like my name but also a normal name. But when everyone called me "Candice" at the next day, I was not accustomed to this name. So I changed my name back. Now, I feel "Candy" is a sweet name and I like it very much!

Letter 16: Chinese New Year
Dear Tim,
I have a wonderful Chinese New year in my winter vacation. During the New Year, I went to my grandfather's house to celebrate it. I hadn't seen my grandfather and grandmother for almost half a year. Therefore, I felt very happy in spite of we just stayed at home. And during my winter vacation, I went to Taichung for two days with my classmates, Melody, Melvyn and William. We all had a good time!
Speaking of Valentine's Day, I really hope that one day I can celebrate this holiday with me lover. I really envy those people who gets beautiful flowers or sweet chocolate from their lover.
